NB: Chatsworth, Tate, Cliveden, Osborne & Dunster now come with easily adjustable lift & tilt actions. Supplied as standard in maximum tilt lowest lift position but may be adjusted to achieve higher flatter lift or very high virtually flat lift.
We find when training customers on our products that the greatest benefit and interest is almost always derived when we explain the pros and cons of the various lift and recline actions.
We have always felt that a good single motor tilt-in-space action is hard to beat for simplicity and efficacy and find that most therapists who have a good deal of chair knowledge tend to agree with us. Some people do, however, need the further degree of recline offered by a dual and may benefit from the ability to operate backrest and legrest actions separately. We take pride in using British-made Seminar actions, (except on Multi 6), which are top quality, extremely reliable and manufactured with the needs of the older or disabled customer very much in mind. The electrics are from Dewert in Germany and again of a very high quality and extremely reliable. Set below are some points on the types of action we use, including an exciting new product.
Single motor two-way tilt-in-space actionSingle motor two-way tilt-in-space action (for example Blenheim, Chatsworth, Tate) has the simplicity of just two handset buttons and provides excellent high elevation of the ankles without causing any friction or shear as the seat to back angle remains constant.
Single motor three-way actionSingle motor three-way action (for example Sandown, Osborne) as two-way but with further recline at the end of the initial tilt-in-space action - some friction and shear are inevitable as there is an opening out of the seat to back angle at the end of the recline action.
Dual motor actionDual motor action (for example Beaulieu, Cliveden, Multi 6) has a four button handset, and two motors which allow independent legrest and backrest operation and the backrest may be reclined virtually flat, but there is some friction and shear as the backrest opens away from the seat.
Super dual motor actionThe new improved super dual motor action (Dunster, Arlington) has tilt-in-space features which significantly improve user comfort on the dual, reducing the amount of friction and shear, providing higher legrest elevation and multi-positioning in fully reclined mode.
Three motor bariatric heavy duty actionThree motor bariatric heavy duty action (Waddesdon) for the larger user has a four button handset, operates as Cliveden but has two synchronised seat lift/legrest motors. NB: When using this type of action the feet should be slid forwards as far as possible when the legrest is elevated to prevent excess strain on the legrest lift action
